Acetylene

The low auto-ignition temperature of acetylene means that minimal energy is required to ignite acetylene in air or oxygen. Highly reactive, acetylene is dissolved in acetone and contained within a porous mass inside the cylinder

  • Cutting, Brazing and Heating
  • Thermal spraying of various metals and ceramics. The material to be sprayed is fed through the flame.
  • Flame cleaning - a wide oxyacetylene flame is held very close to a steel surface to be cleaned
  • Flame hardening - an oxyacetylene flame can be used where the hardened surface of carbon steel components is either in-situ as a remedial process or on components too large to fit in a furnace
  • Acetylene is the only fuel gas recommended for underground working conditions because it is lighter than air. It is also the only fuel gas, for instance, which can be used to weld steel.
